Much of The Bahamas' indigenous music, folklore, and myth originated on Cat Island, and you will see that reflected throughout. You can also explore remnants of Arawak, Loyalist and slave abodes; visit iconic sites such as Father Jerome's Hermitage and Sir Sydney Poitier's boyhood home; sample savory dishes passed down in families for generations; watch as music is created from "scraping" a carpenter's saw and catch the festival in its honor each year; and see local artisans weaving straw hats, bags and dolls. |
